MCA - Pushing against democracy

Instead of pushing against UMNO's racist politics, against deadly investigation techniques by MACC and the police, and pushing for free press, MCA has been pushing peaceful protestors!

Here are a 9-year-old video and 6 images from 2001. They show how MCA members pushed a peaceful protestor as party brass looked on (and of course later denied pushing). The protestors wanted to present a memo against MCA's acquisition of Nan Yang Siang Pao. MCA denied pushing. Photos proved it.


The rest was history - as we now know MCA was damaged financially, in member morale, and in the ballot box by the Nan Yang acquisition.

How time has not changed for MCA

Soh, who is the brother-in-law of the late Teoh Beng Hock, fell to the ground after being violently pushed when he tried to approach Heng who was leaving a party function. Following this, Heng, who is deputy women, family and community development minister, vehemently denied that Soh was manhandled dismissing the incident as "an accident". Her denial, however, has sparked anger among the local Chinese. DAP leaders today showed a series of photographs that they said prove Soh suffered an unnecessary attack. -- MalaysiaKini.com

Flash back to 2001 June 5




A small group of peaceful protestors approached MCA's Penang HQ on Pahang Road to present a memo against MCA's takeover of Nan Yang Siang Pao. They were greeted by a (then) excited group of MCA supporters eager to show their (tragically) blind loyalty to MCA.

Some of the MCA supporters around the area looked like 20-year-old thugs in black T-shirt. They don't look like regular MCA members because they did not converse or showed no recognition of other members. They just sat there on their race bikes, smoked, looking like gangsters to intimidate.

But it was the older MCA members who shouted abuse and pushed back. They denied it, until Sin Chew daily printed these photos. That was before Sin Chew and Nan Yang editorial staff were consolidated and became tightly controlled over the next two years.

Why don't MCA members wake up?

I don't blame the MCA members. It is MCA leaders who have concluded they can gain more by association with UMNO. MCA members are only placed in the front line to face the inevitable conflict with peaceful protestors who demand freedom.
